US equity indexes rose in midday trading on Monday, with consumer staples and consumer discretionary topping the sector charts.
Energy
IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each shed about 1.3%.
Technology
The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 1.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also advanced.
The State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 2.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was up 2.3%.
Financial
The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was 0.9% higher. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 2.6%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), dropped 2.6%.
Commodities
Crude oil fell 5.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) slipped 6%. Natural gas lost 24.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was down 24.7%.
Gold on Comex dropped 1.1%, and the State Street SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) shed 3.6%. Silver edged lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 5.7%.
Consumer
The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.9%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.
The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 0.9%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) climbed 1.7%, and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 1.8%.
Health Care
The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.6%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) moved higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 1%.
Industrial
The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) rose 0.9%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also advanced.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) was up 2.3%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) lost 5.8%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) fell 11.9%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) shed 6.8%.
