Cerence Shares Slide Premarket After 2Q Rev View Shortfall

Shares of Cerence fell sharply after the maker of talking-car AI technology forecast fiscal second-quarter revenue short of Wall Street expectations.

The company's shares plunged 20% to $8.65 in premarket trading.

For the second quarter ending in March, the Burlington, Mass., maker of AI designed to improve car verbal interfaces forecast revenue in a range between $58 million and $62 million, shy of the average Wall Street target of $64.9 million, as per FactSet.

Late Wednesday, Cerence logged a loss of $5.24 million, or 12 cents a share, for the fiscal first quarter ended in December, narrower than $24.3 million a year earlier. Revenue more than doubled to $115.1 million.

The AI firm reiterated its projection for revenue in the fiscal year ending in a range between $300 million and $320 million.
