RBC Wealth Management is opening a new branch in the Atlanta area to be staffed by a financial advisor team that previously oversaw $430 million in client assets at UBS. The Wilson Wealth Management group, consisting of one advisor and three support staffers, will run an RBC branch in Alpharetta, Ga.

The group is led by Jimmy Wilson, a 28-year industry veteran who started with Morgan Stanley in 1997 and moved to UBS in 2009, according to the online database BrokerCheck.

The team also includes support staffers Ryan Kopec, Kristin Wint, and Megan Harris. UBS declined to comment on the departure.

The practice serves wealthy individuals and families with complex financial pictures in Georgia and around the country, including business owners and members of the entertainment industry. They offer multigenerational planning and were drawn to RBC for the support it promises as Wilson's team looks to expand its service offering to include more sophisticated tax strategies and estate planning.

"Jimmy and his team were attracted to RBC Wealth Management for its client-centric approach, the autonomy that advisors appreciate, and the ultrahigh-net worth capabilities we offer," says Robin Long, RBC's South Atlantic complex director. "We are excited to welcome them to a brand new branch in Alpharetta that will allow us to connect with clients in this area on an even deeper level."

The team's website describes a holistic service model that offers clients guidance on retirement planning, including a subset of that service geared for business owners, as well as tax and estate planning and investment management.

The move continues RBC's aggressive recruiting campaign as it attempts to lure advisory teams away from rival brokerages, particularly those working with ultrahigh-net-worth clients. Growth in the south has been notably strong. RBC says the complex Long manages has seen its new advisor head count increase by 28.5% over the past five years.
