Environmental Clean Technologies (ASX:ECT) said laboratory testing of the rapid electrothermal mineralization technology, a subset of the flash joule heating process, conducted under controlled conditions showed high levels of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) destruction, including reported defluorination efficiencies of over 96% and removal of perfluorooctanoic acid of up to 99.98%, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.

It secured a licence to use the flash joule heating and rapid electrothermal mineralization technologies for the remediation of soil contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances with the acquisition of Terrajoule in December 2025.

It has been developing a high-voltage, high-frequency, rapid electrothermal mineralization system, designed to operate without conductive additives.

Over the next three months, the firm will assess complementary technology from Rice University for PFAS remediation in water. Over the next three to six months, it will focus on finalizing the rapid electrothermal mineralization prototype, while commencing the permitting requirements for on-site soil remediation.

Its shares rose 4% in recent trading on Thursday.
