India's Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation stood at 2.75% year-on-year in January 2026, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Thursday.

The inflation print is based on the revised CPI series with base year 2024=100, replacing the earlier 2012=100 series. The updated series draws weights from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) 2023-24, the country's ministry of statistics said.

Rural inflation was recorded at 2.73%, while urban inflation stood at 2.77% for January 2026. The figures are provisional.

Food inflation, measured by the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), came in at 2.13% year-on-year in January. Rural food inflation was 1.96%, while urban food inflation was 2.44%.

Housing inflation for January was reported at 2.05%, with rural housing inflation at 2.39% and urban at 1.92%.

The base year revision incorporates updated consumption patterns, price structures, and expenditure weights to reflect changes in household spending across rural and urban India, the ministry said.
