Top tech executives will gather in New Delhi, India, for an AI Impact Summit that starts Monday. The event follows previous government-led summits in the U.K., South Korea and France focused on artificial intelligence.

The week-long event, from Feb. 16-20, is aimed at moving "beyond aspirational frameworks towards concrete, measurable impact[s] that address both AI's promise and its perils", the summit's website said.

It comes amid a broad U.S. market selloff fueled by fears of over-investment in AI. Investors have expressed concern that elevated capital spending by major tech companies could strain corporate balance sheets.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai are expected to attend this week's event. Other attendees listed on the summit's website include Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang.

While Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was invited, the company said he would not be attending. Nvidia's India media agency MSL said he would not be traveling due to "unforeseen circumstances," Reuters reported on Saturday. Barron's contacted Nvidia for comment.

The government of India's press information bureau also stated the event would bring together "15 to 20 heads of government and 40+ CEOs of leading global and Indian companies," as well as leading researchers in the AI industry.

Investors will be alert to comments from top executives about future AI activity which could impact stocks and markets. Remarks related to investments in India will also be of interest.

In December, both Microsoft and Amazon made commitments to building out AI infrastructure in India. This week's summit presents a opportunity for other companies to broaden their footprint in the country.
