Investors face a holiday-shortened week featuring Federal Reserve speakers and economic data. Walmart earnings will provide insight into the health of the U.S. consumer. The market will parse a significant batch of data at the end of next week-including an advance look at fourth-quarter GDP and the personal-consumption expenditures price index-to gauge the economy's momentum and inflation.
Monday, Feb. 16

-- Fed speeches: Federal Reserve Vice Chair Michelle Bowman will speak at a conference in Orlando, Fla.
Tuesday, Feb. 17
-- Earnings: Palo Alto Networks, Medtronic, Caesars Entertainment, Cadence Design Systems, Toll Brothers
-- Fed speeches: Fed governor Michael Barr is set to speak on artificial intelligence and the labor market.
Wednesday, Feb. 18
-- Earnings: Analog Devices, Moody's, Booking Holdings, Carvana, DoorDash
-- Economic data: Industrial production and capacity utilization for January. The Census Bureau will release data on new residential construction for November and December.
-- Federal Reserve: Minutes from the central bank's Jan. 27-28 meeting to be released at 2 p.m. ET. Also, Michelle Bowman is scheduled to speak in Washington.
Thursday, Feb. 19
-- Earnings: Walmart, Deere, Newmont, Live Nation
-- Economic data: Weekly jobless claims, pending home sales for January, advance economic indicators report for December and data on international trade for December
-- Fed speeches: Bowman will give a pre-recorded speech at a banking conference in Atlanta. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari speaks on the economy.
Friday, Feb. 20
-- Economic data: The Bureau of Economic Analysis is set to release the personal consumption expenditures price index for December-the Fed's preferred inflation gauge-along with an advance estimate of fourth-quarter gross domestic product.
-- More economic data: The Census Bureau is set to release new home sales data for November and December, while S&P is due to release preliminary February PMI figures for services and manufacturing. Meanwhile, the University of Michigan will release finalized results of a consumer sentiment survey for February.
-- Supreme Court: The high court is expected to issue opinions after its winter recess. The court never reveals in advance which opinions it will release, but the disclosure of three opinion days starting Feb. 20 prompted speculation that a decision on Trump's tariffs could come soon.
