La-Z-Boy logged higher sales in the third quarter and said it expects recent adverse weather to dent its results for the current quarter.

The furniture maker on Tuesday posted a profit of $21.7 million, or 52 cents a share, compared with $28.4 million, or 68 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were 61 cents, compared with estimates of 59 cents a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue rose 4% to $541.6 million, compared with analyst estimates of $535.4 million.

The increase was driven by growth in the company's retail and wholesale segments, partially offset by a decline for its Joybird brand.

Same-store sales in the company's retail segment fell 4% in the quarter, and were strongest in January with the exception of adverse weather, which slowed traffic late in the month, the company said.

Chief Executive Melinda Whittington said the consumer environment remains challenging, though the company continues to gain momentum by expanding its retail footprint through new and acquired stores.

For the current quarter, the company guided for sales of $560 million to $580 million. Analysts expect sales of $590.2 million.

The outlook reflects a continued cautious view on the economic backdrop as well as the short-term effect of recent adverse weather events, the company said.
