Cenovus Plans Major Turnaround at Lima, Ohio, Refinery in Second Half -- OPIS

Cenovus Energy has scheduled major maintenance work at its 185,000 b/d Lima, Ohio, refinery in the second half of the year.

In an investor presentation Thursday, the Canadian energy company said its Lima refinery's turnaround should lower annualized throughput by 20,000 b/d to 24,000 b/d.

Cenovus also estimated its overall maintenance schedule will U.S. refining throughputs by 35,000 b/d to 45,000 b/d in the third quarter and by 40,000 b/d to 50,000 b/d in fourth quarter.

In the U.S. Cenovus also operates the 160,000 b/d Toledo, Ohio, and 50,000 b/d Superior, Wis., refineries. In addition, the company said the Toledo refinery completed a first-quarter 59-day turnaround 11 days ahead of schedule.

Cenovus' U.S. refining business posted Q4 crude throughput of 353,000 b/d, good for a 97% utilization rate. That was down from 605,000 b/d in Q3 after Cenovus sold its 50% stakes in the 384,220 b/d Wood River, Ill., refinery and 159,688 b/d Borger, Texas, refinery to Phillips 66.

Cenovus also operates oil and gas production in Canada and the Asia Pacific as well as upgrading, refining and marketing businesses. The company is one of the heavy oil producers operating in Alberta's oil sands.
