Shoe Carnival has parted ways with its top executive, Mark Worden, and its former chief executive, Cliff Sifford, has taken the reins of the footwear retailer on an interim basis.

Shoe Carnival on Wednesday said Worden, who had been president of the Fort Mill, S.C., company since September 2019 and CEO since October 2021, has left those posts and resigned from the board.

The company said Worden's departure isn't due to any disagreement on any matter relating to its operations, policies or practices, adding that he will receive severance payments related to a termination without cause.

Sifford, 72 years old, served as Shoe Carnival's CEO from October 2012 until ceding the post to Worden and becoming vice chairman.

Shoe Carnival said Sifford will remain vice chairman and serve as interim president and CEO while the company conducts a search for a permanent successor to Worden.
