Geron shares fell on disappointing fourth-quarter results and guidance, despite restructuring efforts.

The stock slid 16% to $1.65 on Wednesday. Shares are still up 3.4% over the past 12 months.

The Foster City, Calif., biopharmaceutical company posted roughly flat sales of $48.0 million, below the $50.4 million analysts were expecting.

It had an adjusted loss of 5 cents a share, while analysts had been projecting a loss of 3 cents a share.

Costs continued to rise for Geron as well. The company cut a third of its workforce in December as part of a restructuring effort. Expenses increased to $75.8 million from $67.6 million the year before.

Geron expects revenue will be $220 million to $240 million for this year, missing analysts' guidance of $242.6 million.
