Advanced Energy Minerals (ASX:AEM) said it has completed modifications at its 2,000 tonnes per annum Cap-Chat plant to enable commercial-scale production of ultra-low alpha high purity alumina, according to a Tuesday Australian bourse filing.

The ultra-low alpha high purity alumina is "essentially free" of alpha radiation-emitting radionuclides from uranium and thorium, the filing said.

The company said, following successful customer test work, production has commenced to supply Korean, Japanese, and Chinese customers with the alumina product for industrial-scale trials.

The product has been developed for thermal packaging applications, including thermal fillers and thermal interface management materials, in the semiconductor sector, particularly for artificial intelligence accelerator chips and associated high bandwidth memory, the filing added.

Following completion of the plant modifications, Advanced Energy Minerals has launched the SupALOX L-Series ultra-low alpha high-purity alumina product suite, the company said.
