Cloudflare (NET) chief executive officer Matthew Prince has been summoned by a Spanish court as a suspect as part of an investigation into illegal soccer broadcasting, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing a copy of the court decision.

Spanish authorities are investigating alleged crimes against intellectual property and obstruction of justice, the report said.

The order is part of broader efforts by Spain's soccer league LaLiga and Telefonica's (TEF) television operator Movistar+ to fight against unauthorized internet broadcasts of Spanish soccer matches, Bloomberg reported. The order follows another court's decision in December to allow LaLiga and Movistar+ to request internet service providers to disclose the addresses that allowed users to watch live football games illegally. Bloomberg reported, citing LaLiga and Movistar+, that around 38% of those addresses were linked to Cloudflare.

Prince and another Cloudflare representative are scheduled to appear in court on April 7 but neither has been formally charged, the report said.

Cloudflare did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
