Ryanair Says Italian Court Rulings Overturned Fines Imposed in 2022

Ryanair (RYAAR) said Friday that three Italian court rulings have overturned fines imposed on the airlines in 2022 by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, or ENAC, for cancelling flights.

The ruling found that Ryanair is not liable to compensate passengers for the cancellations since they were caused by "extraordinary" circumstances, which include air traffic control delays, airport closures, bird strikes, or strikes by third-party service providers, according to a Google-translation of the airline's Italian statement.

The ENAC had imposed three separate fines totaling over 71,000 euros ($82,198), Ryanair said, noting that the court has ordered the regulator to reimburse the amount to the airline.
