Stunts, Swords and Seasons: ‘One Piece’ stars stay the course for season two

LOS ANGELES, March 5 (Reuters) - The cast of Netflix’s NFLX.O live‑action “One Piece” isn’t ready to dock their pirate ship anytime soon.

“As long as people enjoy it (the show), we enjoy it, we’re healthy, and the quality stays high, I think we could go for quite some time,” said Jacob Gibson, who plays Usopp, the pirate crew's spirited sniper and storyteller.

After joking they could keep filming for “200 years,” he added, “As long as we can make it great.”

The hit series — drawn from Eiichiro Oda’s ongoing manga and anime — drops its second season Tuesday on Netflix. At the same time, the crew is already deep into filming season three, which began production in November 2025.

Fans can also catch big battles from the first two episodes of season two on AMC theater screens.

“They’re going to feel as close as they can to how we felt walking onto these sets,” Emily Rudd, who portrays Nami, the crew’s savvy navigator, said about fans watching the show in movie theaters.

The adventure follows optimist Monkey D. Luffy, who has the power to stretch his body, played by Iñaki Godoy, and his beloved Straw Hat Pirates as they hunt for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece.

The ensemble also includes Mackenyu Arata, who plays the swordsman named Zoro, Taz Skylar, who portrays master chef Sanji, and newcomer Charithra Chandran, who joins as the fierce bounty hunter Miss Wednesday.

Chandran dove into stunt training, calling the fight choreography “like a dance — broken down to make it simple.”

With a show packed with globe‑trotting missions and high‑energy brawls, Godoy said he’s learned to pace himself while playing his energetic lead character. “I’ve gotten better at managing my energy — it’s a lot of long days,” the 22‑year‑old added.

However, he feels that playing Luffy has always felt natural for him.

"Since I was a little kid, I think I always had a certain energy about me, and maybe that's why it feels so right that me and Luffy found each other," Godoy said.
