F. Hoffmann-La Roche subsidiary Genentech terminated its collaboration agreement with Xencor effective Sept. 4.

Xencor, a biotechnology company developing antibody treatments, said that it received a notice of termination from Genentech on Wednesday. Genentech terminated the agreement in its entirety for convenience, Xencor said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Monday.

Roche announced in January 2025 that it was removing the sole active collaboration product covered by the agreement, an engineered protein called efbalropendekin alfa, from its development pipeline. Xencor had expected Genentech to terminate the agreement, the company said Monday.

Xencor had ceased all cost-sharing development activities by opting out of co-development under the agreement in the first half of 2024, it said. At that point, Genentech assumed sole responsibility for certain products covered by the collaboration agreement, including efbalropendekin alfa.
