A criminal third party managed to access some basic information about Loblaw customers in a data breach, according to the company.

The Canadian grocer said Tuesday it became aware of the data breach after identifying suspicious activity on a contained, non-critical part of its IT network. It said the impacted data included names, phone numbers and email addresses.

Loblaw's current investigation indicates that PC Financial, the company's financial services brand, wasn't impacted by the breach, the company said. The breach also didn't extend to passwords, health information or credit card data.

The company secured its network and customer information per its security response protocol, logging all customers out of their accounts, Loblaw said.
