A federal judge on Tuesday ordered a coalition of states and Live Nation to try to hammer out a resolution in a monopolization lawsuit against the dominant concert promoter, a day after the Justice Department and the company announced a proposed settlement.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian told the parties to spend the rest of the week working on an agreement.

The Justice Department and Live Nation announced their settlement a week into a trial taking place in Manhattan federal court. The Justice Department and dozens of states had accused Live Nation of stifling competition.

The tentative Justice Department deal allows Live Nation to retain ownership of its Ticketmaster subsidiary after years of threats to break up the business.

A coalition of state attorneys general didn't sign onto the agreement, saying in a court filing Monday they were not involved in the talks and that details were withheld from them until the day the trial began.

Subramanian began Tuesday's hearing scolding the parties for not being forthcoming to him about the potential of a settlement. He said he only learned about an agreement on Sunday night, even though the terms of a deal had been inked days earlier.
