Meridian Energy (ASX:MEZ, NZE:MEL) has been alleged to have breached New Zealand's voltage regulation by not being capable of meeting its voltage support obligations at its Harapaki wind farm on July 18, 2024, according to a Friday notice to the company by New Zealand's Electricity Authority.

The notice said the system operator reported that Harapaki operated at very low active power due to low wind availability between 5.00 pm and 6.30 pm on that day.

During the event, the Harapaki 220 kilovolts (kV) bus fluctuated rapidly between positive 10 megavolt-amperes reactive and negative 10 megavolt-amperes reactive to compensate for reactive power injection and absorption, with the system operator attributing this to the wind farm's reticulation circuits and the number of online wind turbines during low wind conditions, the notice added.

The company did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' email request for comment.

The company's Australian shares fell 1% in recent Friday trade.
