It’s a very short window. We can’t delay this. When the crop has to go in the ground, it’s got to go in the ground,」 Seabrook said.Bowen revealed that of the 81 fuel ships due to arrive in Australia in April, six have been cancelled. Credit: 7NEWSThe Energy Minister has the power to direct fuel supplies under the Liquid Fuel Emergency Act, but Bowen said it’s not needed yet.「It’s never been invoked ever, not through the first two Gulf Wars, COVID,」 he said. 「It’s not designed to be invoked lightly.」Meanwhile, unions in Australia’s most populous state are calling on the NSW government to make Sydney’s public transport network free or heavily discounted to ease pressure on fuel supplies as the war overseas continues to drive petrol prices to record highs.The Rail, Tram and Bus Union says slashing fares would get city commuters out of their cars and free up fuel supplies for farmers and trucking in regional areas where they’re needed most.The push comes as Sydney’s average petrol price hit around $2.40 per litre for regular unleaded and almost $2.83 for diesel, with some service stations running dry amid broader supply concerns.The crisis shows little sign of abating.
