Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google and the US government were sued by a California woman who alleges they failed to protect her privacy when unredacted files related to Jeffrey Epstein were released, according to a federal court complaint filed Friday.

The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe 1, says she is among the sexual-abuse survivors whose personal information appeared in the documents.

The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, claims the Justice Department violated federal law by releasing records that included names, phone numbers, email addresses, occupations, and photographs of survivors, asserting that required redactions were not made before publication.

The complaint also alleges that Google's AI-powered search features generate results that include survivors' personal information and make it easier for the public to contact them, even after the government withdrew the unredacted files from its own site.

The suit seeks an order requiring Google to remove the information from its services and stop indexing it, along with compensatory and punitive damages and class certification.

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
