A segment along bp's Olympic Pipeline will remain closed over the weekend following a failed restart, bp said in an updated media statement Friday.

"On Tuesday, March 24, Olympic initiated a partial restart of an unaffected segment of the pipeline following planned maintenance," bp's US Media Relations Manager Cesar Rodriguez stated in the company's statement. "At this time, the impacted segment is expected to remain out of service through Sunday, March 29."

Company personnel responded to an "operations related concern" on the system's mainline Monday prompting a temporary shutdown, OPIS previously reported.

"On Monday, March 23, crews discovered a suspected product release from the Olympic Pipeline at an Olympic facility near Ferndale and immediately responded," Rodriguez said in Friday's update. "Olympic Pipeline shut down its mainline to address the issue."

The critical fuel artery for the regions moves refined petroleum products including gasoline, diesel and jet fuel to terminals spanning from northern Washington to Oregon, and consists of one 16-inch diameter pipeline and one 20-inch pipeline.
