Amazon (AMZN) helped drive a record Q1 for corporate bond issuance across Europe, the Middle East and Africa after raising 14.5 billion euros ($16.81 billion) through an eight-part debt sale in March, representing roughly 10% of total volume for the quarter, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
Total high-grade corporate issuance in the region reached about 145.6 billion euros in Q1, according to Bloomberg data.
US tech companies led issuance activity, with Alphabet (GOOGL, GOOG) and International Business Machines (IBM) also ranking among the largest borrowers, Bloomberg reported.
Together, the three companies made up more than 18% of total issuance during the quarter, according to Bloomberg.
