The US is set to impose 100% tariffs on certain imported medicines as part of an attempt to pressure pharmaceutical firms to shift production to the US, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The levies, which are set to be announced Thursday, apply to imports from companies and countries that have yet to strike deals with the White House, the report said.

The European Union, the UK, Pfizer (PFE), AstraZeneca (AZN), and Novo Nordisk (NVO) are among those that have worked out deals for lower tariffs, the report said.

The White House did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
