The price of Bitcoin was falling early Wednesday having almost hit $76,000 over the past 24 hours.

The world's largest cryptocurrency was down 0.8% to $73,953, according to CoinDesk data. Meanwhile, Ethereum and popular alt-coin XRP were also in the red, by 2.3% and 0.9%, respectively.

The price of digital assets fell back even as futures markets eked out small gains. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones futures indexes were both up 0.1% early Wednesday.

Higher energy prices, linked to fighting in the Middle East, have weighed on the global economy -- and risk assets like cryptos more generally. A definitive end to the conflict would be welcome news for Bitcoin.

Elsewhere Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi said Tuesday that the cryptocurrency exchange had filed for an initial public offering late last year. He was speaking at the Semafor World Economy conference in Washington, D.C.
