Shares of Ideaya Biosciences climbed after the company announced what it called positive top-line results from its melanoma-treatment trial.

The stock jumped 36%, to $41.52, in premarket trading Monday. Through Friday's close, shares are up 82% over the past year.

The oncology company said before the bell that its treatment, darovasertib, used in combination with crizotinib, resulted in a statistically significant improvement in median progression-free survival in patients with a certain type of melanoma in a Phase 2/3 registrational study with pharmaceutical group Servier.

"For patients with uveal melanoma, these results potentially offer a new treatment option that delivers a significant clinical advancement in both progression-free survival and overall response rate versus currently available therapies," Chief Executive Yujiro Hata said.

Ideaya said that, based on these results, it will target the submission of a new drug application to the Food and Drug Administration in the second half of the year.
