VeriSign 1Q Profit, Revenue Rise on Domain-Name Registration Growth

VeriSign logged higher profit in its latest quarter as revenue rose on growth in domain-name registrations.

The domain-name-registry provider on Thursday posted a first-quarter profit of $214.5 million, or $2.34 a share, compared with $199.3 million, or $2.10 a share, a year earlier.

Revenue rose 6.6% to $428.9 million, compared with analyst estimates of $425.9 million.

The company ended the quarter with 176.1 million domain-name registrations, up 3.7% from the end of the prior-year quarter.

VeriSign also said it will increase the annual registry-level wholesale fee for each new and renewal ".com" domain name registration to $10.97, from $10.26. The increased fee will take effect Nov. 1, the company said.
