Shares of Veradermics climbed after the company shared what it called positive data from a recent trial of its in-development therapy for pattern hair loss.

The stock rose 16%, to $79.01, in premarket trading Monday. The stock had its public debut in February, with Veradermics pricing its initial offering of 15.1 million shares at $17 apiece.

The biopharmaceutical company said data from a Phase 2/3 clinical trial of the drug, VDPHL01, positions it to become the first Food and Drug Administration-approved oral pill in nearly 30 years for pattern hair loss, as well as a potential best-in-indication treatment option.

The recent trial of the treatment met all primary and all key secondary endpoints with statistical significance, demonstrating robust increases in hair count while being generally well tolerated, Veradermics said.

Nearly 80% of patients in the once-daily dose arm and 86% of patients in the twice-daily dose arm reported improvement in hair coverage after six months of treatment with VDPHL01. That compares with about 36% of placebo patients.

"We are optimistic that these results represent a defining milestone for the hair-loss community, our company and investors," Chief Executive Reid Waldman said.
