Wayfair stock fell sharply Thursday after the furniture retailer missed estimates for first-quarter earnings.

The company posted adjusted earnings of 26 cents a share for the quarter, up from 10 cents a year ago but below analysts' consensus estimates of 28 cents, according to FactSet. Revenue rose 7.4% from last year to $2.93 billion, above Wall Street's call for $2.89 billion.

Wayfair stock fell 8% in premarket trading. Shares had fallen 27% in 2026 as of Wednesday's close but had gained 135% over the last 12 months as the company defied last year's slump in furniture sales.

"While the home furnishings category experienced a choppy start to the year, we outperformed the market by a high single-digit spread in the first quarter, based on our estimates," CEO Niraj Shah said in a statement.
