Molson Coors Pushes to Patch Its 'Leaky Bucket' -- WSJ

Molson Coors is hustling to win back budget drinkers who have turned away from its value beer brands.

"In terms of share, the value segment is where we have had a leaky bucket for a long time," CEO Rahul Goyal said on an analyst call. The maker of Miller Lite and Blue Moon said that while low-income consumers are making more shopping trips and purchases, their baskets are lighter-buying more single cans for instance.

The company plans to boost its Keystone brand with new flavors this summer, and new ads tied to the World Cup and America 250 for Miller Lite, which faced challenges during the quarter. Goyal said Molson Coors is confident, "but on the other hand, we recognize the macro issue still around the category."

The stock rose about 2% Thursday, after Molson Coors reported quarterly earnings that beat Wall Street's expectations.
