Roblox cut its full-year guidance as efforts to boost its safety features weighed on its latest quarterly results.
The videogame company now forecasts revenue of $5.87 billion to $6.14 billion for the full year, down from its prior outlook of $6.02 billion to $6.29 billion. It now expects bookings of $7.33 billion to $7.6 billion, compared with $8.28 billion to $8.55 billion previously.
Roblox said the updated guidance factors in expectations that the safety headwinds it's experienced so far will continue. In its latest quarter, the roll out of age checks -- a feature aimed at limiting users' chat conversations to those in a similar age group -- weighed on daily active user and bookings growth by more than expected, the company said.
The company said it will continue its efforts to facilitate age-appropriate access to content and product features over the next few quarters.
"While our aggressive push to enhance safety lowers our expectations for topline growth in 2026, it makes our platform fundamentally better," the company said in a letter to shareholders, noting the safety efforts will boost its long-term growth potential through more effective content targeting, tailored communication experiences and improved community sentiment.
For the current quarter, Roblox projects revenue of $1.39 billion to $1.45 billion and bookings of $1.55 billion to $1.61 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet expect revenue of $1.48 billion and bookings of $1.88 billion.
The company projects that daily active users will decline on a sequential basis in the current quarter due to the safety rollouts.
The stock slid 21%, to $43.60, in after-hours trading.
The guidance came as Roblox logged a wider loss despite higher revenue in its latest quarter.
First-quarter loss came in at $246 million, or 35 cents a share, compared with a loss of $215 million, or 32 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet were looking for a loss of 41 cents a share.
Revenue rose 39% to $1.44 billion, compared with analyst estimates of $1.45 billion.
Bookings, a metric that reflects Roblox's deferred revenue, grew 43% to $1.73 billion, compared with analysts' estimates of $1.74 billion.
