Reddit 1Q Profit, Sales Surge

Reddit's profit surged in its latest quarter as double-digit growth in ad revenue boosted sales.

The social media company on Thursday posted a first-quarter profit of $204 million, or $1.01 a share, compared with $26 million, or 13 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts expected earnings of 57 cents a share, according to FactSet.

Revenue surged 69% to $663 million, topping analyst estimates of $607.7 million.

Ad revenue, which makes up the bulk of the San Francisco company's top line, soared 74% to $625 million. Other revenue, which includes the company's content licensing deals, rose 15% to $39 million.

For the second quarter, Reddit expects revenue of $715 million to $725 million. Analysts were looking for $710.9 million.
