Tapestry Results Bolstered By Strong Coach Performance -- Market Talk

0918 ET - Sometimes brands need to pull back before they can move forward. This is what Coach did a decade ago when it closed stores, reduced discounts and hired a new designer. Now, its parent, Tapestry, is reaping the benefits of that strategy. Tapestry, which also owns Kate Spade, reports a 21% sales increase driven entirely by growth at Coach, where sales grew 31% from the previous year. New customers, particularly younger Gen Z shoppers, drove that growth. Leather goods units were up 20% and average unit retail, a measure for prices, grew by a low double-digit rate. Coach grew in every region. Kate Spade fared less well, with sales falling 10%.(Suzanne.Kapner@wsj.com)
