Howmet Aerospace raised its full-year outlook after posting stronger-than-expected first-quarter results, lifted by broad demand across its key end markets.

The aerospace components manufacturer on Thursday now expects revenue to be between $9.58 billion and $9.73 billion, up from a previous range of $9 billion to $9.2 billion.

Outlook for adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization was also upgraded, now expected at $3.03 billion and $3.1 billion. Previously the company guided for $2.71 billion to $2.81 billion.

Adjusted earnings are now pegged at $4.88 to $5 a share, up from a range of $4.35 to $4.55 a share.

Chairman and Chief Executive John Plant said the company expects strong growth across its major markets, driven by rising aerospace production rates, increasing engine-spares demand, and continued strength in defense and gas-turbine activity. He noted early signs of improvement in commercial transportation but remains cautious given geopolitical risks.

In its first quarter, Howmet posted a higher net income of $580 million, or $1.44 a share, compared with $344 million, or 84 cents a share, in the same quarter a year ago.

Adjusted earnings were $1.22 a share, topping its own guidance of between $1.09 and $1.11 a share, as well as analysts expectations of $1.11 a share, according to FactSet.

Revenue rose 19% to $2.31 billion. Revenue for the quarter was above its own targets, and also higher than analyst forecasts of $2.24 billion.

Howmet credits the quarter's performance to strong growth across its key end markets, a momentum it expects to continue going forward.

For its second quarter, the company expects revenue to be between $2.39 billion and $2.41 billion, with adjusted Ebitda of $760 million to $770 million. Adjusted earnings per share are expected between $1.22 and $1.24.
