1805 ET - Bank of Canada Gov. Tiff Macklem says the Canadian government's recent economic update, which spelled out new spending measures, won't materially alter its forecast. The economic update was introduced on April 28, or one day prior to the most recent BOC quarterly forecast. Macklem says officials couldn't incorporate the fiscal measures in the latest forecast. Nevertheless, "from a macro perspective, it won't have a very large impact on the outlook," especially on the inflation front, Macklem says. BOC's forecast anticipates that public-sector spending will help offset weakness related to US tariffs and weak hiring. (paul.vieira@wsj.com; @paulvieira)
