Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing or TSMC's (TPE:2330) unit, TSMC Global, acquired corporate bonds worth about $42.3 million, according to a Wednesday Taiwan Exchange filing.

Shares gained about 3% in Thursday's midday trade.

The purchases were made between March 17 and May 6 as part of the group's fixed-income investment strategy.

The securities investment accounts for about 6.03% of total assets and 8.09% of equity.
