Bank of New York Mellon, the oldest continuously operating bank in the U.S. and the nation's first publicly traded company, is changing its ticker symbol.

The New York financial-services giant, which has traded under the symbol BK since 1969, on Monday said it will adopt the symbol BNY effective May 21 as an extension of its adoption of BNY as its umbrella brand in 2024.

BNY, founded in 1784 by Alexander Hamilton, in 1792 was the first company traded on what would become the New York Stock Exchange.
