CAE Mulls Sale of Flightscape Software Unit in Portfolio Streamlining Push

CAE is considering a sale of its aviation software business as part of a broader effort to streamline its portfolio and refocus on its core simulation and training operations.

The Montreal-based simulation and training company is kicking off a formal process to potentially sell, spin off or bring in partners for Flightscape.

Flightscape is CAE's aviation software unit, which offers cloud-based tools for flight planning, operations control and decision support. The business serves major airlines globally and employs more than 600 staff across the Americas, Europe and Asia, it said.

CAE on Monday said that the decision follows a portfolio assessment which it completed earlier this year where the company determined that Flightscape had developed to a point where it could be a standalone, high-growth software business.

"That review reinforced our conviction in Flightscape as a strong, differentiated business that may be better positioned for its next chapter through alternative ownership or partnership structures," Chief Executive Matthew Bromberg said.
