Keysight Technologies handily beat Wall Street expectations in the second quarter and set its sights for more gains in the months to come.

The software and hardware maker expects $1.73 billion to $1.75 billion in revenue for the quarter that ends in late July, above current analyst targets for $1.65 billion, according to FactSet. Third-quarter adjusted earnings should hit $2.43 to $2.49 a share, ahead of estimates for $2.16 a share.

The upbeat forecast comes after what Chief Executive Satish Dhanasekaran called the strongest quarter in the company's history for orders, revenue, earnings and cash flow.

Keysight posted a fiscal second-quarter profit of $349 million, or $2.02 a share, up from $257 million, or $1.49 a share, in the same quarter a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings for the quarter, which ended April 30, were $2.87 a share. That topped analyst projections for $2.32 a share.

Revenue topped Wall Street views as well, climbing 31% to $1.72 billion with gains across its communications solutions and electronic industrial unit. The company's order book was almost 56% higher at $2.05 billion.

Keysight shares jumped 8% to $372.04 after hours.
