E.l.f. Beauty swung to a loss in its fiscal fourth quarter as its costs increased.

The cosmetics and skincare company on Wednesday posted a loss of $49.4 million, or 82 cents a share, compared with a profit of $28.3 million, or 49 cents a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were 32 cents. Analysts polled by FactSet expected 29 cents a share.

Revenue rose 35% to $449.3 million. Analysts expected $423.1 million.

The company's selling, general and administrative expenses increased to $319.1 million from $192.7 million a year earlier. The rise in these expenses was driven by higher marketing, merchandising and distribution costs and an increase in compensation and benefits, depreciation and amortization, professional fees and regulatory fees, the company said.

For fiscal 2027, the company expects sales between $1.84 billion and $1.87 billion. It also expects adjusted earnings per share of $3.27 to $3.32. Analysts expect full-year revenue of $1.86 billion and adjusted earnings of $3.61 a share.
