Hims & Hers Health will begin selling generic GLP-1 drugs in Canada for 149 Canadian dollars ($108.41) a month.

The telehealth company will sell a generic version of Novo Nordisk's Ozempic manufactured by Apotex, a Canadian pharmaceutical firm. Apotex's drug was the second generic semaglutide treatment approved by Canadian authorities in recent weeks.

The company said its move into the Canadian obesity and diabetes market would create a more dynamic market for the drugs and meet the needs of two-thirds of Canadian adults who are overweight or obese.

"Today marks a turning point: more choice, lower costs, and a genuine commitment to care built around the whole patient," Chief Medical Officer Sandy Van said.

"Every Canadian deserves access to the treatment that's right for them, regardless of what they can afford."

Hims & Hers has previously sold its own compounded versions of semaglutide to mixed success. The company had mass-produced the drugs amid shortages of the leading branded GLP-1s, Novo's Wegovy and Eli Lilly's Mounjaro.

But legal actions from both firms prompted Hims & Hers to move away from selling its own compounded GLP-1s and toward branded drugs that have received approval in the U.S., such as Wegovy.

The company reported a loss in the first quarter, driven by a $33 million restructuring charge from write-downs related to its compounded GLP-1 supply chain.
