RBNZ Chart Signals High Chance of Three Back-to-Back Rate Hikes -- Market Talk

0510 GMT - The Reserve Bank of New Zealand kept the official cash rate steady at 2.25% on Wednesday, but ANZ says it's itching to hike. The decision was a 3-3 vote, with Gov. Anna Breman breaking the tie. It was accompanied by a chart signaling the OCR will rise more aggressively than thought in February. ANZ says the chart implies a very high chance of back-to-back hikes at the next three meetings. "We continue to forecast three hikes this year, in July, September and October," says Sharon Zollner, ANZ's chief economist in New Zealand. "We have open minds on whether the OCR will need to go north of 3%, but there's a lot of water to flow under that bridge." (david.winning@wsj.com; @dwinningWSJ)
