Shares of Biohaven advanced after the biopharmaceutical company reported new data from studies of its treatment for focal epilepsy.

The stock rose 7.4%, to $10.15, midday Tuesday, but are still down 10% year to date.

The company's studies involve Opakalim, a drug that acts as a selective activator of Kv7.2/7.3 potassium channels in the brain to prevent seizures. The drug is currently in Phase 2/3 studies for the treatment of focal epilepsy.

The company said a randomized, double-blind clinical trial showed that subjects who took opakalim had a longer time before experiencing a second day with a generalized tonic-clonic seizure, compared with the placebo group.

The company also said a continuing open-label extension study in focal epilepsy showed 54% of patients with focal epilepsy on opakalim showed a more than 50% reduction in seizure frequency over six months of treatment compared with the baseline.

Biohaven said it is on track to announce the top-line results from first of the two Phase 2/3 studies in the second half of 2026.
