Abercrombie & Fitch's Expected Tariff Relief to Be Offset by Higher Freight Costs, Continued Investments -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
05/27

1100 ET - Abercrombie & Fitch's 1Q tariff expenses were lower than anticipated given the timing and level of tariff rates in the quarter, CFO Robert Ball says on a call with analysts. Ball adds that his updated tariff rate assumptions equate to around 20 basis points of gross margin pressure for the full year, an improvement from 70 basis points in Abercrombie's March outlook. "However, we expect that relief to be offset by elevated freight costs and continued investments in marketing and stores," he adds. Net, Abercrombie backs its operating margin outlook for the year, expecting the metric to still land in the range of 12% to 12.5%. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
