Honda Motor Recalls Nearly 99,000 Vehicles in US Over Airbag Defect

Honda Motor (HMC) is recalling 98,892 vehicles in the United States due to a defect that may cause airbags to deploy unintentionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday.

The regulator said the recall covers certain Acura TLX models, Accord Hybrid vehicles, and 2022 Honda Accord cars.

According to the regulator, the issue stems from a front passenger seat weight sensor that can crack and short circuit.

It added the malfunction may trigger airbag deployment even when a child or infant is seated in the front passenger seat, where deployment should normally be suppressed.

Honda dealers will replace the faulty seat weight sensors free of charge as part of the remedy, NHTSA said.
