Regeneron Pharmaceuticals's treatment for the Ebola virus was recommended for priority evaluation in clinical trials by the World Health Organization's Therapeutics Advisory Group.

The company said Thursday the WHO recommended that maftivimab, an antibody component of the company's inmazeb treatment, be studied in clinical trials of investigational treatments for Bundibugyo ebolavirus. Maftivimab has demonstrated broad activity in vitro against multiple Ebola species, including Bundibugyo, the company said.

The WHO recently declared the current outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern.

Inmazeb has already been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of infection caused by Orthoebolavirus zairense, or Zaire ebolavirus, in adult and pediatric patients. Regeneron said it is working to prepare an existing supply of maftivimab for use in potential upcoming clinical trials.
