M&A-Related Insurance Payments In North America Rise -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
05/29

Insurers worldwide paid nearly $650 million in mergers and acquisitions-related claims last year to the clients of Marsh & McLennan's Marsh Risk unit, an insurance broker and risk adviser. Private equity-backed transactions accounted for the vast majority, or 92%, of such claims, while corporate deals represented the remaining 8%, Marsh Risk says. "The data reflects the maturity and extensive adoption of transactional risk insurance in the private-equity sector." It points to the "routine application" of warranty-and-indemnity insurance, as well as tax insurance, in buyouts, "particularly in competitive auction environments where these insurance solutions are often integral to securing preferred bidder status." In North America, insurance payments totaled $412 million last year, 39% more than in 2024, Marsh Risk adds. (luis.garcia@wsj.com; @lhvgarcia)
