KBR secured an $8 billion contract with the U.S. government to oversee everything from scientific research support to logistics and infrastructure for the U.S. Antarctic Program.

The engineering, government-services and defense contractor on Wednesday said that the 20-year Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract was awarded by the National Science Foundation.

Under the $8 billion ceiling hybrid indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract, which begins this month, KBR will provide full-scale operations, maintenance, logistics and science support in Antarctica and aboard ships in the Southern Ocean.

The company will support all scientific missions and experiments at the three U.S. stations as well as at all its field sites on the continent.

At the same time, KBR will provide global logistical operations and deliver full-scale IT, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity support for U.S. operations there.
