Ulta Beauty logged higher profit as sales climbed in its latest quarter, with the company citing strength across all of its channels and major categories.

The cosmetics and fragrances retailer on Tuesday posted a fiscal first-quarter profit of $340.5 million, or $7.74 a share, compared with $305.1 million, or $6.70 a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected earnings of $6.89 a share.

Revenue climbed 11% to $3.16 billion, compared with analyst estimates of $3.12 billion.

Same-store sales rose 5.3%, compared with analysts' forecast for growth of 4.7%. The increase was driven by a higher average ticket and an uptick in transactions, Ulta said.

Chief Executive Kecia Steelman pointed to broad-based growth across all channels and major categories, and said the results show the company's strategy is working in an uncertain economic landscape.

For the fiscal year, the company now forecasts earnings per share of $28.36 to $28.80, up from its prior projection of $28.05 to $28.55. It continues to expect sales growth of 6% to 7% and comparable sales growth of 2.5% to 3.5% for the year.
