GSK Emerges as Unexpected Winner From American Oncology Conference -- Market Talk

0953 GMT - U.K. drugmaker GSK came out as an unexpected winner from a big U.S. oncology conference, Jefferies analysts say in a note. Early-stage data for GSK's drug candidate IDRx-42 presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting showed potential as a first-line treatment for gastrointestinal cancer, Jefferies says. Moreover, updates from rivals on new ovarian-cancer drugs didn't top those of GSK's own candidate Mo-Rez, the analysts say. Competition in the market for drugs to treat ovarian cancer resistant to platinum-based chemotherapy is heating up, they add. GSK's Mo-Rez and NaPi2b--developed by Tubulis, which was recently acquired by Gilead Sciences--might be setting the bar for the disease, while AstraZeneca's Puxi-Sam doesn't look as competitive, according to Jefferies. GSK shares fall 0.3%. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
